Review – The Magnets

The Magnets: ★★★★★
Walking into The Factory at the Garden of Unearthly Delights, I had no idea who The Magnets were. But, hey, that’s where the surprise hit me! The Magnets are composed of a group of 6 multinational men from around the UK + Australia, who are not only pleasing to look at, but also possess some of the strongest, most soulful voices I’ve ever heard. My earballs are still tingling from the amazing performance last night!
You may think that an hour-long acapella show is quite a long one, but honestly, when you’re having the time of your life & get treated to a number of classic hits remastered by these guys, you will want them to keep going.
The band does a brilliant job of including the whole audience & more times than not, the audience went absolutely crazy over the incredible talent in this 6-man sound machine, where no instruments or background music is incorporated. Whatever melodies you hear through their songs, it is all made by the men themselves.
Like country music? Are you a fan of rap? How about some beatboxing? In the mood for some relaxing jazz music? No matter where your interests lie, these guys will put an individualistic spin on each tune. Never mind that each man in this band has an accent worth swooning over, but they all seem to amalgamate into one soul when they sing harmoniously. No wonder my iPod has had a quick refresh to incorporate The Magnets’ music – it’s catchy, it puts you in a good mood, it’s very “feel-good”, & it’s the kind of music that you won’t get sick of, for a very long time. Some of the well-loved hits that fans can expect include the likes of Jolene, Uptown Funk, All About That Bass, & even Barbie Girl (yes!).
Each beautiful man gets their own “single”, where the rest act as backup singers – this is a great way to showcase their musical talents in their own way. 6 mouths, 6 different tunes, 6 beautifully blended music. It doesn’t get any better than that.
By the expert level of synchronization, it is apparent that the boys have put in an innumerable amount of hours with rehearsing, choreographing, & fine-tuning (pun intended) their musical talents to bring us an hour of top quality entertainment.
If you think boy bands are all about teenage boys with prepubescent voices, lend these guys your ears and prepare to have your mind blown.
Legendary undefeated 3x UK Champion beatboxer, World Team Beatbox Champion with The Beatbox Collective & mouth music specialist BALL-ZEE gives us nearly 5 minutes of beatbox envy, with his jaw-dropping skills of creating an instrument-free encore with his pure & intense vocal chord workout. Bass genius Duncan Sandilands has a strong voice that can move mountains. Together with Callum McIntosh, Billy Boothroyd, Michael Conway, & Damion Scarcella, this epic band has the power to collectively deliver an energetic, charming, & eclectic performance that can be enjoyed by kids & adults alike & give new meaning to “acappella music”,
