Wisp Wines

There is nothing more comforting than drinking wine made by people who put their soul into making it. That’s what Wisp Wines is all about. The winery is owned and operated by Kristine and her family. With a passion for high quality grapes, Wisp Wines introduced alternative processes, starting with the soil to ensure their grapes produced the maximum taste and volume. Grapes are sourced from their vineyards in the Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale wine regions, giving Wisp Wines more opportunities for broader flavours and blends. Having the best of both worlds, Wisp Wines can allow their Adelaide Hills grapes to ripen more slowly, enhancing their flavours and enabling the wine to mature more sophisticatedly. Their McLaren Vale grapes grow in rich soils producing some of the best red wine varieties in the world.

WISP Shiraz McLaren Vale 2012

A strong flavoured wine with a deep red colour, it has some hints of cherry. It is noticeably sweet with a tart, mature finish. There is a woody bouquet and it faired well with hard cheeses.

WISP Merlot Coonawarra 2013

This wine has a strong, sharp flavor, but is quite a light wine. There are hints of berries, maybe even dark berry fruits such as blackberry or even mulberry. It ends with hints of oak. It would do best, cellared for a bolder and depth of flavour.

WISP Sauvignon Blanc 2016

With a very fruity palate, a hint of passionfruit is a welcoming surprise. The light, fresh, crisp taste brings lime and summer herbs too. This is definitely a wine to drink in the warmer weather. Best consumed with fish and a good cheese platter.

Pick of the bunch: Wisp Shiraz McLaren Vale 2012 and Bronze Medal Winning Wisp Sauvignon Blanc 2016 – this is testament to the vineyards being located in two of my favourite wine regions – they have the best of both worlds, with the cooler climate of the Adelaide Hills perfect for white grape varieties and the rich soils of McLaren Vale producing robust shiraz grapes. These wines are available directly from the winery www.wispwines.com.au and are medium priced. Great value for money.
