Fringe Review: Anya Anastasia The Show ★★★★

Anya Anastasia: The Show ★★★

Anya Anastasia is back in Adelaide with her cabaret show, creatively titled “The Show” playing at Masonic Lodge! This is some epic and hilarious musical story telling about her life and the perils and struggles of being a cabaret singer.

Entering the stage accompanied with ball and chain (disco ball at that!), Anastasia adamantly tells us how she has now quit cabaret (*gasp*) and is looking for work – but who wants to hire a cabaret star, what experience do they have (besides the odd stint here and there in hospitality!)? With little job prospects, she discovers that her skills as a cabaret star can be transposed to being a spy! She even gets to meet the ultimate spy himself – Mr. James Bond, and help him on an explosive mission! But, if her new career as a spy does not work out though, there is also that audition tape that she sent to Disney! Anastasia is sure to succeed, as long as there isn’t a yellow car somewhere in sight!

Armed with simply her keyboard and a ukulele, Anastasia is still somehow able to bring a full sound to her show. Her lyrics are hilariously superb and with have you it in fits of laughter and still singing her songs well after walking out of the show!
