Get crafty and creative with a resin jewellery workshop

Love jewellery? Then you’d love a resin jewellery workshop where you get arty making your own pendants and earrings.

Our teacher was professional jeweller, Emma Cuppleditch. She says, ‘there are endless possibilities of working with resin. You can make any shape, colour or size.’

We all had a set of moulds with hearts, teardrops and other quirky shapes. Emma showed us how to add a colour, mix the solutions and pour into the moulds. We learnt that you have to work quickly, stirring and pouring before the mixture starts to thicken and go gloopy.

Next, we learnt how to make pieces with four colours. Emma demonstrated how to drizzle colours into the moulds to create a speckled effect. Everyone experimented with drizzling and splotching colours in their own unique way.

It was a small group of ten of us in the class, and they were a fun bunch. People laughed and chatted as we all played with our colourful resins.

The workshop was held at Adelaide Moulding and Candle Supplies. So while we waited for the resin to set, Emma took us into the shop and showed us all the paints, moulds and equipment we needed to continue our creative journey.

Finally, we popped our pieces from the moulds and smoothed out the lumpy bits with sandpaper. And it was a good time to check out all the funky patterns that people had created. Then, Emma added the findings and hooks to make them into earrings or pendants.

Time flew by in this three-hour workshop, and the whole process was fairly easy. Even I could do it and I’m not a crafty sort of person. We also got to keep the resin jewellery kit, which includes the moulds and solutions. So I’m going to keep experimenting at home.

My favourite thing I made was a green pendant with a pretty, iridescent glow. And it feels really satisfying to wear something that I created. I may have found my new hobby!
