“Since its inception 6 years ago, this live music open access festival grows 30% each year, not to mention growing 89% in registered events between 2018 and 2019, with 380 live music events all up across the 17 days and sees contemporary performances by local, national and international artists across pop, rock, hip hop, punk, jazz, world music, metal, folk, electronic and everything in between!

Umbrella Festival is 100% OPEN ACCESS, true to the motto “For the music community; by the music community”. Whether you are a venue, artist, promoter, event manager, small business owner or local government, you can register your live music events with us and be a part of the largest open access live music festival in South Australia, all at a very affordable fee of $25.00 per event registration before 31 March 2021, and $40 there on after until 3 May 2021 when registrations for the printed program close.

In 2020, the festival and live music scene was struck with an unprecedented global pandemic. Sadly, Umbrella Festival as we know it, couldn’t go ahead, and instead we rolled out a state wide marketing campaign titled GO LIVE with a gig guide as the centrepiece that included more than 1300 safe live music events across SA between September 18 and December 31. This demonstrated how the creatives of Adelaide have acquired skills to be imaginative and vigilant in any scenario. The resilience of the music scene is paramount and stands as proof that we are willing to combat any challenge to get on the stage and in front of audiences.

Now, in 2021, and with the State Government announcing a regional expansion investment into the future of Umbrella, audiences are more enthusiastic to see live music events, now more than ever.

This year’s program consists of careful curation within the City of Adelaide, City of Port Adelaide Enfield and Regional SA areas including the iconic Opening Night celebration in collaboration with inaugural festival Illuminate, plus the addition of masquerade balls, multi-art form performance pieces, and street parades. **ANNOUNCEMENTS COMING SOON**

Funding assistance is gratefully received from the Live Music Events Fund through the Music Development Office (MDO) and the South Australian Tourism Commission. Other major partners include the City of Adelaide, Adelaide Fringe, Channel 9 Adelaide, Moshtix, and the Australian Hotels Association (SA Branch).

Adelaide is officially recognised as a UNESCO City of Music. For audiences, Umbrella is the perfect incarnation of what it means to be a UNESCO City of Music. Umbrella is a grass roots organic creation that is made up of local venues and mainly local performers. It has a connection with the people and places of South Australia, so that visitors who attend Umbrella events experience something that is quintessentially South Australian and reflective of a live music sector that is envied across the nation.

Umbrella Festival acknowledges the traditional custodians, the Kaurna people, whose ancestral lands we gather on.
