ADELAIDE ARCADE WELCOMES NEW TEA ROOM CIELO

Adelaide Arcade is thrilled to announce a return of old-world glamour to the prestigious shopping precinct with the arrival of tea room; Cielo.

Bringing a tea room back to the arcade for the first time in generations, everything available at Cielo is made in-house, by hand, using local and organic produce where possible.

Adelaide Arcade General Manager, Andrew Jonats, says it’s wonderful to see a tea room concept being revived in what is one of the city’s most prestigious buildings.

“Adelaide Arcade is more than 130 years old, and the original underground tea room was a defining feature of the original build,” says Andrew. “We’ve been hopeful for some time that a tea room like that would make its way back to the Arcade.”

“Cielo is a welcome addition to the retailers we have, providing another great social experience alongside our other cafes.”

Artisan tea, handcrafted pastries and seasonal coffee are on offer from owner and pastry chef Chaveli Goya, who already operates successful tea business Fresia and Cassia.

Chaveli says Cielo was her dream of creating a space where people can ‘take tea’ as friends meeting for a chat, a celebration, or just to escape the wintry weather.

“I began my tea business based on my grandmother’s tea,” says Chaveli. “Cielo is about taking my experience of having tea with her into a space which showcases that experience I enjoyed most with her.”

“Cielo is a unique experience of what would have been my deepest memories of her, and like many Chileans with what we call tecito – our way of having tea.”

Using the Spanish word ‘from above,’ as her business name, the sky has been the limit for Chaveli, who operates Cielo with her mother and a close friend.

The intimate family experience brings back the comforts of the old-world, a European style of socialising that can still be achieved effortlessly in the modern era.

“There’s nothing like this in Adelaide,” says Chaveli. “It’s comforting, it’s unique, it’s classic and authentic.”

Chaveli’s five years of experience as a pastry chef has seen her work across Adelaide and the Barossa, at Shibui dessert bar, Appellation – The Louise, and most recently Chicco Palms.

In 2022, the leap to creating tea with Fresia and Cassia took place with a spot at Plant 4 Bowden’s markets, which in turn led to Cielo.

Cielo will soon offer bookings for regularly scheduled high teas, as well as private functions such as kitchen teas and baby showers.
