ANECDOTAL EVIDENCE COMES TO THE ADELAIDE FRINGE

Maryellen George is bringing Anecdotal Evidence, a brand-new comedy show to South Australia, debuting at the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

Directed by RÜFÜS DU SOL’s creative director, Katzi, Anecdotal Evidence stars comedian protagonist Maryellen George and follows her on a quest to find meaning in chaos.

Based on the idea of both literal and metaphorical dreams, Maryellen’s Anecdotal Evidence is queer, quirky and explores ideas of mediocracy, posing the question of how important one single person can be, in a world so big?

“As a feminist, LGBTQI+, ADHD, narcoleptic with high hopes and ambitions, I wanted to weave anecdotes and experiences from my own life together, celebrating diversity and ultimately trying to find hope in Anecdotal Evidence,” Maryellen says.

“I don’t get it when others look up at the sky at night and are comforted by how insignificant they are, I want my life to be significant, and Anecdotal Evidence is a collation and questioning of the proof that I’m a good and significant person contributing to the world.” Maryellen continued.

Coming off the back of performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022, Maryellen comes with five years of comedy experience, travelling the world for her craft in places such as the United Kingdom, Los Angeles, Sydney, and Melbourne.

Maryellen remains innovative with creative ventures, not limiting herself to stand-up comedy; she is also the co-host of the Sad and Sexy podcast. Combining all passions into one, Maryellen is the producer for ‘Bits & Pieces Comedy,’ which is a platform for women and underrepresented comedians in Melbourne.

Creative director of RÜFÜS DU SOL Katzki, is the director and producer of Anecdotal Evidence, which is his first step into a theatrical direction.

Throughout this 60-minute piece, Maryellen weaves anecdotes together in her signature high octane style, with characters, physical comedy, and surprises.

Maryellen is also the recipient of the 2023 Adelaide Fringe Artist grant.

Anecdotal Evidence will only play 10 shows from 7 March until 19 March at the Warehouse Theatre, Unley.
