Adelaide Multicultural Eid Festival will take over Adelaide Showground for a huge weekend in 2023 across April 29-30.

The family-friendly event celebrates a coming together in Islamic culture. Eid-al-Fitr sees Islamic people sending prayers of happiness, and afterwards, breaking the fast after the month-long Ramadan practice (fasting between dawn and sunset).

Adelaide Multicultural Eid Festival Creative Director, Mohammed Hassan, says the event creates a big opportunity to highlight an important cultural sector of the city’s community.

“We always want to provide the Muslim community with the chance to embrace their identity and also allow children to experience Islamic culture while living with Australian culture as well,” says Hassan.

“We also want to showcase our beautiful culture to those not part of the Muslim community, by sharing our stories through food and laughter in a place where everyone is welcome.”

The single event for this year is a step back from two celebrations held in 2022, to focus solely on celebrating Eid, which is also known as The Festival of Sweets.

This year’s festival remains focused on Eid cuisine, which among other foods includes sweets such as halwa and baklava. Food trucks will represent countries such as Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, India, and Pakistan, with more to be revealed at the event, offering the likes of Mediterranean food, Dutch delicacies, fajitas, ABs, kebabs, yiros, pizza, and chicken tikka to name a few.

Family-friendly entertainment is bigger and better for 2023, with camel rides and an animal farm creating interactive experiences for children and family memories for all. Rides include jumping castles, dodgem cars and the Sizzler – some destined to thrill, all to excite.

Stalls will invite a look into Muslim culture with various wares on sale including hijab and abayas, Muslim art, and prints.

There are also multiple stage shows from local performers, sporting activities, public speakers, and a fireworks display on Sunday evening to round out the event.

Adelaide’s Multicultural Eid Festival is self-funded and executed by volunteers as a not-for-profit community event. It is one of the Adelaide Showground’s largest attended events each year thanks to the support of the greater community.

Ticket prices are $7 for all when purchased online, and $10 if purchased on the day, with children under 5 free. There will also be unlimited ride passed for $35 online or $40 on the day.
