Mozart’s powerful Great Mass in C minor (1783) reveals Mozart at the height of his brilliance. Unfinished at the time of his death, this large-scale work is scored for two sopranos, a tenor and a bass with a double chorus and orchestra. The composition embodies the pomp and solemnity associated with the Salzburg traditions of the time and anticipates the symphonic masses of Joseph Haydn. Completed a few years earlier, Vesperae solennes de confessore was composed for liturgical use in the Salzburg Cathedral. Its best-known movement, the Laudate Dominum, has a beautifully written solo for soprano.
Adelaide Philharmonia Chorus, with Music Director Aldis Sils, is excited to present these magical choral gems.
Soloists include Brooke Window (soprano), Victoria Coxhill (soprano), Kim Worley (tenor), Robin Cornish-Hall (soprano), Mary Tatchell (alto), Chany Hoffmann (soprano) and BJ Moore (bass).
Choir and soloists will be accompanied by an ensemble drawn from the Adelaide Concert Orchestra.
