Fringe Review – Murder Village: An Improved Whodunnit

Murder Village: An Improved Whodunnit was performed at the State Library of South Australia, delivering a genuinely clever and highly entertaining night of theatre.

What makes this show stand out is the way the entire story is created live with the audience. At the beginning, we completed a survey and voted on key elements of the mystery, including who the murderer would be and who the unfortunate victim was. From there, the actors improvised the entire narrative based on those results.

The cast handled the challenge brilliantly. Their improvisation was sharp, witty and consistently funny, but also impressively structured given the complexity of building a coherent murder mystery in real time.

Each performer bounced effortlessly off the others, with excellent timing and the kind of confidence that comes from seasoned improvisers willing to follow whatever wild turns the audience creates.

The result was a fast-moving and thoroughly engaging show where humour, mystery and spontaneity blended perfectly. Watching the actors cleverly weave our suggestions into a complete and surprisingly intricate murder mystery made the whole experience feel fresh and completely one-of-a-kind.

Smart, interactive and laugh-out-loud funny, Murder Village: An Improved Whodunnit is a standout of the Adelaide Fringe. A must-see for anyone looking for a Fringe show that keeps the audience involved from start to finish.
