Top Adelaide chefs including Duncan Welgomoed, Justin James and Kane
Pollard will take part in the seventh edition of East End Cellars’
annual Soup Kitchen this winter.
The popular fundraising lunches will return on Thursdays from June 19 to
July 17, raising crucial funds for Hutt St Centre and Catherine House to
fight homelessness.
The special event donates 100 per cent of proceeds and features twists
on traditional hearty soups from some of Adelaide’s best chefs.
Margie Andrewartha, East End Cellars Co-owner, says the return of the
event can be supported by the whole community – from individuals to
corporate groups.
“Hutt St Centre and Catherine House are two amazing organisations
which work so hard to assist people experiencing homelessness in
Adelaide” says Margie. “We have a lot of the city’s finest chefs
donating their time and talent to this important cause and we hope a lot
of the city’s community comes to the East End in support of our
initiative.”
Duncan Welgomoed (Africola) and Justin James (Restaurant Aptos) are
joined across the program by Kane Pollard (Ondeen) Sharon Romeo and
David Swain (Fino Vino), and Joshua Cooke (Chianti).
The soup selections for each week will be revealed ahead of the event
and are priced at $20 each, served with fresh baguette from Prove
Patisserie, and a vegan or vegetarian version will also be available
across all weeks. Each week, the soup kitchen runs from 12pm until sold
out and there is a dine-in experience, as well as takeaway options.
Throughout the events, silent auctions will be hosted featuring generous
donations from numerous wineries. Wines on offer already include a 2016
Yangarra McLaren Vale Roussanne Magnum and a 2018 Luigi Giordano
Barbaresco Montestefano Riserva Magnum from northern Italy.
QR codes for both Hutt St Centre and Catherine House will be available
to access on the day for patrons wanting to make further donations to
help those sleeping rough this winter. Upon donating, patrons will
receive a tax-deductible receipt.
A donation of $350 to Hutt St Centre can fund a home starter pack,
helping someone experiencing homelessness transition from the street
into secure accommodation with essential household items. Meanwhile, a
$30 donation—just $10 more than the cost of a soup kitchen meal—can
provide a person with two weeks’ worth of hot breakfasts and
nutritious lunches, served from the Centre’s kitchen each weekday.
At Catherine House, $152 can provide a night’s accommodation for a
woman experiencing homelessness. A donation of $50 allows Catherine
House to supply a welcome pack for a woman arriving at Catherine House.
Advance bookings for the East End Cellars Soup Kitchen at Vardon Avenue
