Neither prison nor hospital, Z Ward occupies a unique place in South Australia’s history. From the rare ‘Ha Ha Wall’ encircling the building to its striking polychromatic brickwork, Z Ward is a fascinating site with an important, and at times challenging, story to tell.

Behind The Walls takes you through the history of the building from its 1885 construction to closure in 1973 and beyond, along with plenty of time to explore every cell, nook and cranny.
