SUMMARY:Starstruck: Australian Movie Portraits
DESCRIPTION:Friday 14 September — Friday 30 November 2018 \nA collaborative project between the National Film and Sound Archive and the National Portrait Gallery\, Starstruck: Australian Movie Portraits reveals never-before-seen stories of Australian cinema. SUMMARY:Molly Reynolds & Rolf de Heer: The Waiting Room
DESCRIPTION:Friday 14 September — Friday 30 November 2018 \nTime begins\, ends and goes astray in The Waiting Room. It is the place between ‘before’ and ‘after’. A place where realities converge and diverge. In The Waiting Room\, we are transported to that place\, where the elusive yet exacting nature of time reveals itself. \nInternational award-winning filmmakers Molly Reynolds and Rolf de Heer\, together with visual designer Mark Eland and sound designer Tom Heuzenroeder\, present a cinematic installation in five dimensions\, traversing the audio-visual realm through space and time. Continuing the Samstag Museum of Art’s series of moving image commissions in partnership with the Adelaide Film Festival\, The Waiting Room is Reynolds’s and de Heer’s first foray into creating work expressly for an exhibition context. Matching technical dexterity with conceptual depth\, it promises to push the boundaries of the cinematic experience. \nA Samstag Museum of Art exhibition in association with the 2018 Adelaide Film Festival.

SUMMARY:Fine Washi Art Exhibition by Gigi Muto
DESCRIPTION:Fine Washi Art promotes traditional Japanese fine wash art. Established in February 2012 in Adelaide and developed with assistance from various partners\, Fine Washi Art has grown within a short period of time. \nTaking up flamenco dancing as a hobby introduced her to the wondrously coloured embroidery of the flamenco dancing shawl and saw the birth of a blended passion: her joy in the dance and in the beauty of the colours of the dancing costumes. In the field of traditional Japanese fine arts\, hand-crafted paper\, washi\, (treasured for its range of textures and colours) offered Gigi a means to further explore her passion for colour. Through her work as a beautician\, her passionate connection to flamenco dancing and its colour\, her deep aesthetic appreciation for the exquisite range of texture in washi paper\, Gigi has developed as an independent artist in the field which she calls Fine Washi Art and in which she is gaining a high level of recognition.

SUMMARY:ERIC
DESCRIPTION:Unseen Theatre Company presents:- \nPratchett’s hilarious race through space\, time\, history and the torture chambers of hell. \n“ERIC”  (not Faust) \n Original novel by Sir Terry Pratchett. \nAdapted for the stage by Pamela Munt. (copyright 2018) \nEric has been described as “the Discworld’s only demonology hacker”\, but all he really wants is three wishes.  That sounds simple enough\, right? \nNo\, this is not your favourite fairytale from your childhood.   Far from it.  Well\, maybe not that far……..just as far as the Discworld where demons\, wizards\, hell-hounds\, hostile travel accessories\, and more demons\, thinly disguised as public servants with a penchant for excessive amounts of stationary and memos\, are real.  Well…real-ish. \nBut to get back to Eric\, the clever young man with a Faust-like spirit of insatiable scientific inquiry.  It turns out that he is not quite as clever a hacker as he thinks he is. Instead of calling up a malleable\, complaisant\, but experienced demon to grant his wishes\, his magic circle has managed to retrieve the most incompetent wizard in the universe …Rincewind. \nWhat follows is an hilarious race through space\, time and history.   Not to mention\, the torture chambers of hell. (which I think I just did – oops!) \n Comments about Sir Terry Pratchett\, original author of the book:- \n“He is screamingly funny. He is wise. He has style” – Daily Telegraph. \n“To say that Terry Pratchett is popular is a bit like saying the Arctic Circle is a bit nippy” – Sunday Express. \n  \nWHEN:  October 5\, 6\, 10\, 11\, 12\, 13\, 17\, 18\, 19\, 20 at 8pm. \nWHERE: Bakehouse Theatre\, 255 Angas Street\, Adelaide \nTICKETS:  Adults $22\, Conc $18\, Fringe Members $16\, Groups (6+) $16\, Previews $16 \nBOOKINGS:  www.bakehousetheatre.com (or at the door on the night – subject to availability) \n

SUMMARY:The Met presents Cole Porter's Musical: CAN-CAN
DESCRIPTION:In 2018\, The MET is thrilled to celebrate 60 Years of performing Musical Theatre in Adelaide. To celebrate our 60th Anniversary\, we are very proud to present Cole Porter’s production of CAN-CAN. \nCAN-CAN is set in the Montmartre district of Paris in 1893. \nAt the Bal Du Paradis Cafe\, owned by La Mome Pistache\, the naughty CAN-CAN dance is performed. After a police raid\, the dancers are arrested and the ensuing court case results in Judge Aristide Forrestier personally investigating the charges of ‘lewd and lascivious dancing’. Although forewarned of complications by his friend\, Judge Paul Barriere\, Aristide falls in love with Pistache and is introduced to some diverse characters and situations. \nBoris Adzinidzinadze\, a Bulgarian sculptor\, is courting Claudine the lead dancer at the Bal Du Paradis. Their friends Theophile\, Etienne\, Hercule and Celestine and the vivacious CAN-CAN dancers are all trying to impress the suave\, influential Art Critic\, Hilaire Jussac. The resulting situations are fun-filled and colourful\, climaxing in an exhilarating performance of the CAN-CAN. \nCAN-CAN features some of Cole Porter’s well-known songs: I Love Paris\, C’est Magnifique\, Never Never be an Artist and the exciting CAN-CAN dance. \nThe MET welcomes back Leonie Osborn as Director\, Stephanie Neale in her debut as Musical Director for The MET and Carmel Vistoli as Choreographer.
