SUMMARY:Think Global: Queer Rights and Southeast Asia
DESCRIPTION:While now recognised by the UN and leading democratic states (if still incompletely and often haphazardly)\, LGBTQ rights are denied in many other quarters. \n  \nIn Southeast Asia\, ASEAN has implemented a regional human rights regime\, albeit one which declined to incorporate standard global protections around discrimination in relation to sexuality and gender. This talk will examine the themes of identity\, visibility politics and rights claiming across a diverse range of ASEAN member state contexts.

SUMMARY:Ocean Defence Tour 2018
DESCRIPTION:The Ocean Defence Tour returns to Adelaide this August for the launch of Sea Shepherd’s brand new feature film: Defend\, Conserve\, Protect as well as never before seen footage from recent expeditions including Operation Jeedara 2. \nThe afternoon will feature special guest speakers:\nPeter Hammarstedt\, Captain of the M/Y Bob Barker\nJeff Hansen\, Managing Director Sea Shepherd Australia\nOfficial Sea Shepherd merchandise for sale + your chance to win some great prizes in our raffle and auction. \nDefend\, Conserve\, Protect: Synopsis:\nThe most critical time in human history is now. We are at war with each other trying to protect and conserve the natural resources of the planet or consume them at a greater rate.\nThe battle ground is Antarctica. \nSet far from the eyes of the world in the most inhospitable environment on the planet\, two opposing views fight for control. Neither is willing to back down. On one side\, the so-called Japanese research fleet is openly commercially harvesting thousands of whales in the only international whale sanctuary in the world. On the other\, the Sea Shepherd\, a volunteer guerrilla navy funded by the citizens of the world. \nDefend – Conserve – Protect unfolds as three very distinct annual migrations take place in the cold and furious Southern Ocean; the illegal Japanese Commercial Whaling Fleet; the Sea Shepherd Anti-Whaling Fleet; and the whales. \nDespite the three vastly different reasons for undertaking these journeys\, all are inexplicably entwined and can no longer be separated. \nThis is the story of each group of travellers and how they come to battle for survival in the freezing waters of the Antarctic and what the future holds for each of them.\nDefend – Conserve – Protect is seen through the eyes of a young photographer\, Tamsin\, who makes up part of the Sea Shepherd crew. Her journey is one of exploration and knowledge to document the truth behind the brutal slaying of the majestic whale community and the history of global whale hunting. This is a journey where she will risk her life with two older Sea Shepherd crew members in her quest to reveal the truth. At the helm of the Sea Shepherd is Captain Peter Hammarstedt. He carries with him the resolve of Melville’s Captain Ahab\, only Hammarstedt hunts the whaling ship not the whales. \nIn the deadly ice flows of the Southern Seas these three forces will meet in a mighty clash. In this conflict\, the whales will try and save our humanity\, the Sea Shepherd will try and save the whales and the Whaling fleet try to save a misguided national pride. \nAgendas aside\, Defend – Conserve – Protect is truly a battle for life and death.

SUMMARY:A Life: MT - Adelaide
DESCRIPTION:ONLY 150 TICKETS – BOOK NOW! \nMalcolm Turnbull’s bio begins with his great grandfather in the fledgling colony of Sydney\, back then known as ‘Brisbane’. It details Malcolm’s early years\, though few records about his 8th week as a foetus are available. \nNonetheless\, two thirds of the show is devoted to that specific week. The rest focusses on Malcolm’s triumph after triumph adult life. Well may you ask\, ‘Is our PM actually Vinny from Entourage?’. \nYears ago\, Jordan physically bumped into Malcolm. MT reeled back\, delicately wailing\, “MAHahaw”\, as though a plague-ridden pleb had sneezed. Since that day\, Jordan has been dissecting the origins of MT’s response. Now he believes that fate has inextricably linked him with MT to tiptoe this velvety biographical path together. \nMalcolm knows you love him…so this show you’ll love. \n_______________________________________________________ \nJordan Shanks (Friendlyjordies) is a satirist comedian\, live radio host and podcast creator. He has been described as “irreverent”\, “surreal” and “some guy who got a cheap camera from K-Mart”. \nHe has produced over 250 no-holds-barred videos for his YouTube channel with 250\,000 followers. Jordan hopes he will foster some sort of interest in socio-political discourse\, maybe even stir positive change\, but most people keep asking him to dress up as a high school kid he once knew. Sometimes he complies. \nSince 2013 he has spent 4 years in self-imposed solitary confinement reading thousands of articles about the collapse of the planet and then yelling about it online. \nIn 2016 and 2017 he left the costumes at home and toured his highly acclaimed live motivational comedy show\, Chin Up\, Stooge across Australia!

SUMMARY:Movements (USA) - Adelaide 18+
DESCRIPTION:Destroy All Lines Present \nMovements (USA)\nDebut Australian Tour 2018\nwith special guests\nEat Your Heart Out \nDoors 8:00pm\nFriday 24th August\nJive Bar\n181 Hindley St\, Adelaide SA 5000 \n$36 + Booking Fee\nTickets On Sale Wed 6th June @ 10am\nwww.moshtix.com.au \n________________________ \n“We want our listeners to hear our music and feel something deeper than the everyday run-of-the-mill emotions.”\n– Patrick\, Movements \nMusic and emotion share a timeless physiological\, psychological\, and spiritual bond. A chord\, a melody\, or a lyric can lift spirits and inspire. Movements\, the Southern Californian quartet achieve that sort of reaction with their music and are thrilled to announce their first national Australian tour in August with special guests\, Eat Your Heart Out. The tour will see them hitting all major cities across the country as well as Wollongong and Newcastle. \nFormed by longtime friends\, Movements landed a deal with Fearless Records after just one local gig. Movements weave spacey guitars\, evocative and introspective lyricism\, ponderous spoken word\, and tight song craft in their music. They teamed up with Will Yip (Tigers Jaw\, Title Fight\, Turnover\, Citizen) to produce their debut EP\, Outgrown Things and their full-length LP\, Feel Something (out via Fearless Records). Acclaimed by the likes of Alternative Press and New Noise Magazine\, songs like “Daylily”\, “Full Circle” and “Colorblind” have amassed over 5.4 million Spotify streams combined as they have toured nonstop. They are currently on tour with the Vans Warped tour through out North America. \nSupported by Newcastle’s own\, Eat Your Heart Out who’s music is described as a mix of emo energy\, punk power and pop melodies. The quintet have released two EPs – Distance Between Us (2015) and Carried Away (2017)\, inked a deal with Fearless Records and have supported artists such as Simple Plan\, Columbus\, Trophy Eyes to name a few. Everything paved way for the group’s 2017 EP\, Mind Games [Fearless Records]\, which shows the band aren’t afraid to open up. \nSee Movements bring emotion to life on these shows this coming August.
