SUMMARY:1965 Masters Apprentices - Live at The Gov
DESCRIPTION:1965 MASTERS APPRENTICES\nThe Gov | Fri 03 Aug\nTickets: $35 + booking fee\nDoors open 7.30pm\nQuestions and Answer Interview: 8pm – 8:30pm\nShow starts 9.00pm\n*The venue cannot guarantee seating will be available for this performance \nIt’s 53 years ago… 1965…another time in Australia’s musical history. Mick Bower\, Gavin Webb and Brian Vaughton form an instrumental band in Adelaide called “The Mustangs”. They advertised for a new lead singer – enter Jim Keays to the role and an Australian music institution was born in the legendary Masters Apprentices.\nFast forward 53 years after 2 SOLD OUT Fringe shows in Adelaide 2016\, plus other sold out 2017 shows\, including a recent full house at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne\, the band is back.\nThe reconstituted and expanded nine piece “1965 Masters Apprentices” hit the stage at The Gov Friday 3rd August 2018.\nThe band will also be performing two brand new songs with a twist. Two songs written in the mid-1960s by Mick Bower are currently in rehearsal stage to make their 21st century at the Gov.\nThe “1965 Masters Apprentices” feature 4 original 1960s members of this iconic band including founding members Mick Bower (guitarist /founder and principal composer)\, Brian Vaughton (drums)\, Gavin Webb (bass) and Rick Harrison (guitarist – joining in 1967). The band is augmented by former SA Jim Keays Band members’ guitarist Rob Pippan\, additional vocalists Ian Polly Politis\, Nanette Van Ruiten and Matt MacNamee (second kit)\, plus vocalist Craig Holden upfront.\nIn the 60s the Masters became a rock’n’roll/r’n’b institution alongside the Aztecs and Easybeats taking Australia by storm\, now 52 years later they reunite after Jim Keays’ passing to rock out yet again. It’s the only band from that era still doing major shows.\nAdds founder Mick Bower: “In the 60’s when Masters were touring and recording you could see the great bands of the times – The Easybeats\, Loved Ones\, The Twilights and Billy Thorpe – it was a golden time in Australia’s musical history. We are the only band from that era still doing major shows. We are thrilled be back playing together again in a brand- new chapter in the band’s history. We hope to see the early Masters fans come out and see us at the Gov the last time we were there it was an amazing night!. The new line up is now a tight well-oiled machine after many SA gigs\, and we’re busting to keep playing and having a great time together.”\nOver the last 5 decades the legend behind the songs of the Masters has grown here and internationally. Adelaide will now hear the Mick Bower penned early hits ‘Living In A Childs Dream’\, ‘Wars Or Hands Of Time’ and ‘Undecided’ plus the evergreen hits in later years such as Turn Up Your Radio\, Because I Love You and much more. 2016 also saw a reformed Radio Birdman cover and release Mick’s 1966 classic ‘Buried and Dead’ – more evidence of Micks Bowers’ enduring legacy with the Masters to this day.

In the words of Rob Ryan from acrosstheocean.com.au “Boom Crash Opera’s bankable discography is a real treasure trove of greatness” and “It isn’t until you see this band that you realize how many great songs they have in the armoury.” \nBoom Crash Opera’s current line-up of Andrew De Silva (vocals)\, Peter “Bungie” Farnan (guitar/vocals)\, Peter “Maz” Maslen (drums/vocals) & John Favaro (bass) (keyboards/guitar) continues to reinforce their legendary live reputation from their early roots in the late 1980’s to present day. \nThe ROCK RADIO RIOT tour will be the only chance to see The Screaming Jets and Boom Crash Opera sharing the stage in the great pub rock venues of Australia. They will be playing all their greatest hits from the late 1980’s and early 1990’s as well as new material and some other Aussie classic rock staples revitalized by the Jets. \nIf you’d like more information about this show\, or to request an interview please call Sarah Martin (08) 8340 4697 or email Sarah at publicity@thegov.com.au \nTHE SCREAMING JETS + BOOM CRASH OPERA\nThe Gov | Sat 1 Sep\nTickets: $45 + Booking Fee\nVIP) $80 + Booking Fee\nDoors open @ 7:30 pm

SUMMARY:Willunga Almond Blossom Festival
DESCRIPTION:As the Willunga Almond Blossom Festival moves into its 49th year\, this festival has gone all out to present a bigger and brighter event with activities for people of all ages. Of course\, it wouldn’t be an almond blossom festival without plenty of almond-related activities. At the Almond Hub\, visitors can enjoy cooking demonstrations by local chefs\, talk to authors of almond-related books\, browse the historic display of newspaper articles\, stories\, ball gowns\, and other memorabilia and purchase tasty Willunga almonds. Kids can follow the Children’s Almond Trail (which includes a colouring competition)\, name the almond tree knocker on the oval\, and receive a heart shaped tin full of almonds. And be there on Sunday to enter the almond cracking competition – all ages can take part. \nIn the Live Music marquee\, you will see an eclectic range of artists over the two days\, from Willunga High School drama students\, to a Ukraine Dance group\, Sisters of Abundance\, Pulse Band Duo\, Cool4kids and young performers such as Kylie Brice and Modern Day Riot. If music is not your scene\, there are wild and noisy show rides\, craft activities\, market stalls\, wood turning displays\, pony rides and dog agility demonstrations\, plus a visit from Radicool Reptiles. You might even meet a beautiful fairy – and be sure to see the fireworks display on Saturday night\, which is always a highlight of the festival weekend. \nNo Willunga event is complete without a range of delicious food\, wine and beer. Whether you want real ‘carnie food’\, Greek Souvlaki\, pizza\, simple healthy snacks or Asian dishes\, you will find them at the Willunga Almond Blossom Festival. Love at Thirst Sight Wine Bar will provide mulled wine and almond inspired cocktails\, while Little Buddy Brewery offers their craft beer. \nThere is so much more to see and do\, including the Almond Blossom Parade down High Street on Sunday morning.

SUMMARY:Tumbleweed at the Gov with Even + The Dunes
DESCRIPTION:In 1992 Tumbleweed were at the top of the heap\, following the runaway success of their back to back EPs Theatre of Gnomes and Weedseed\, with both topping the ARIA Aternative Charts\, their direct signing to Atlantic records in America and a string of successful tours and supports with acts such as Mudhoney\, Nirvana\, Rollins and Iggy Pop. \nTumbleweed’s train was rolling at full steam by the time they released their debut album. The first album produced by US producer Mr Colson entered the national charts at number 12 and spawned hit singles such as Sundial and Acid Rain which have remained pivotal songs in the Tumbleweed story to this day. \nTumbleweed will be embarking on a National tour through July to promote the release of the Album on vinyl and to celebrate they will be playing the album in its entirety\, live for the first time ever. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to see Tumbleweed take a trip back to 1992 and hear what made it such a special moment in Australian rock n roll. \nTUMBLEWEED\nThe Gov | Fri 27 Jul\nTickets: $30 + Booking Fee\nDoors open @ 7:30 pm

SUMMARY:Inner Cities at Beaumont House
DESCRIPTION:Described by Alex Ross of the New Yorker as “vast and all-consuming”\, Alvin Curran’s five hour work for solo piano\, ‘Inner Cities’\, is a celebration of space\, light\, meditation and transcendence of time beyond our normal conception. \nThis Sunday\, Gabriella Smart will perform the epic piece in the beautiful resonance of Beaumont House. Smart has previously received rave reviews for past performances of Inner Cities in 2014 in Adelaide\, Melbourne and Sydney\, and in 2015 at MOFO Hobart. \nThe audience are invited to participate in a slow listening experience where the music unfolds over a protracted time-frame\, moving away from the formality and limitations of the condensed\, static listening conventions implicit in the classical traditional concert experience. \nDuring the performance people are free to wander\, absorbing the different architectural and acoustic perspectives of the space. Audiences have been known to meditate\, bring their yoga mat\, or simply sit or lie down. The audience can stay for as long as they wish\, or to leave and return later; there is no expectation that people stay for the entire duration\, allowing them to control their engagement with the artistic experience. \n“My goal\, as always\, was to reduce the musical elements to their ultimate essences\, to repudiate and embrace dualism\, and to emulate\, even in permanent notation\, the feel of spontaneous music-making. The music therefore is open\, unhurried\, brutally lyrical\, quiet\, private and tonal as it is raucous\, aggressively impolite and obsessively meticulous in making the simple relations between tones and durations an unending adventure of personal wonder.”
