SUMMARY:CloZee w/ Imagined Herbal Flows at Adelaide Hall
DESCRIPTION:CloZee and IHF\n10/4 at Adelaide Hall\nDoors are at 8PM.\n19+\nBuy your tickets at http://bit.ly/clozee-100418-tickets \nListen to CloZee on Spotify ➡️http://bit.ly/Spotify-CloZee \nIn a feedback loop of adventure\, music\, and love\, CloZee and her fans are ready to let the force of the sound carry everyone to places they have never been before. Being based simultaneously in Toulouse\, France and on stages across the world makes this electronic musician stand out. \nWith inspirations far afield from music – a painting\, the weather\, a dream – in her craft\, Chloé Herry’s derivations are difficult to trace. Under the broad structure of electronic and bass music\, and informed by sound the world over\, Clozee finds her best fit in World Bass’ corner. \nCloZee has performed on many continents: from Coachella to India\, on four US Tours\, and everywhere around her native France. She is a standout on the roster of her labels\, Gravitas Recordings & Otodayo Records. Followers in many languages drive streams counted in millions. But art’s ability to transport others is this talented producer’s special magic – manifest whenever someone presses play. \nIn the way the clean curve of a Japanese roof is understated and exotic\, CloZee pulls her power from a bold simplicity. Her classical guitar roots allow her an informed\, melodic space that draws influence from flamenco to edIT of The Glitch Mob. This melting pot of instrumentation and cinematic flair puts listeners in a mood to move\, with international crowds now cultivating the evolution of her genre. Chloé says she rarely lays down only electronic sounds. Her favorite sources are organic and real. \nTo describe her life\, CloZee grins and dramatizes her mind exploding. With traction growing stateside\, she is set to expand far beyond the transformational festivals and tours where she grew the same roots that nourished Bassnectar\, Beats Antique\, and Bonobo. CloZee is breaking through the canopy and into the sun. Come see her fly. \nWith support from: \nIHF\nhttp://bit.ly/Spotify-IHF\nhttps://soundcloud.com/ihfmusic

SUMMARY:Art in the Pub
DESCRIPTION:Art in the Pub\, combines art in one hand and a glass in the other\, whilst you undertake your art lessons in a local hotel ensuring you have a night of fun and creativity. Art in the Pub is as simple as it sounds. No experience is required\, just the desire to have ago at what you always wanted to do. You can enjoy your refreshment as it stimulates your artistic flow. Having a drink in a creative environment will help the budding artists ‘relax’ and indulge in 2.5 hours of tutoring\, whilst forgetting about life’s pressures.”The $50 course fee is great value for money because it includes; a canvas\, paint\, the use of brushes and everything a wannabe artist may need over the two and half hour sessions with international artist Cynthia Schwertsik.\n\nBookings are essential via Contempo Art Collections Facebook page\, alternatively bookings can be made through Eventbrite.\nFor bookings: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/art-in-the-pub-tickets-44694937762 \nPh: Julie on 0423 601 894 for enquiries. \nArt in the Pub will appeal to 18+ age groups. \nSome feedback from participants: \n‘Great teacher and host’ \n‘Enjoyed it very much’ \n‘Definitely recommend the experience to my friends’ \n‘I learnt new things\, it was relaxed and the group was friendly’ \n‘Great Concept\, Good atmosphere!’ \nSuitable for beginners and those with more experience. The tutors can adapt advice to suit the individual’s art pieces and level of ability.\n\n\nHere’s a review from a recent participant:\n\n‘I’m no Picasso but I always enjoyed art classes at school\, so when I heard about the Art in the Pub at the Oxford Hotel\, I was eager to check it out. It was a great experience. All the materials were supplied and I felt comfortable asking questions and speaking about what I wanted to paint. The teacher was helpful and encouraging and gave some excellent tips on style and brushwork. Then I was free to play with my creativity while sipping a glass of my favourite wine. \nThere’s something relaxing and even therapeutic about painting and it’s even better with like-minded art enthusiasts. This is a great way to enjoy a hobby while making new friends. It was fun to work in a creative space while also having a chat and a laugh with the other participants. If you want to improve your art skills in a casual pub atmosphere go along to the Urban Art Bar.’

SUMMARY:The coup and the struggle for democratisation in Zimbabwe: Challenges\, Prospects and Lessons
DESCRIPTION:It’s been four months since one of the world’s longest-serving dictators was forced out of power. Robert Mugabe dramatically left office in what was essentially a military coup albeit couched in popular protests. The unique political ‘transition’ that happened in Zimbabwe offers a great opportunity to re-look into the democratisation debate in Africa. This talk discusses the challenges\, prospects\, and lessons for Zimbabwe’s democratisation in the context of the November coup. \nEdson Ziso is a Visiting Research Fellow\, in the Dept. of Politics & International Studies\, School of Social Sciences\, Faculty of Arts at the University of Adelaide. His research focuses on Australia-Africa and China-Africa relations\, South-South cooperation\, global governance and Zimbabwean politics. Ziso recently completed his PhD in Politics at the University of Adelaide. \nThink Global is a monthly series of public talks\, conversations\, and dialogues\, with a focus on contemporary politics and international relations. The Centre of Democracy has partnered with three of South Australia’s leading universities to share new research and engage with current political debate. \nJoin us to be enlightened\, informed\, and inspired to tackle the world’s issues together. \n#ThinkGlobal \n

SUMMARY:A Little Night Music
DESCRIPTION:Join the G&S Society for A Little Night Music \nAudiences will be taken for “A Weekend in the Country” when A Little Night Music\, returns in an all-new production for The G&S Society at the Arts Theatre in April/May. \nStephen Sondheim creates a stunning tour de force when he takes Ingmar Bergman’s comedy of manners\, Smiles of a Summer Night\, and turns it into a musical of masterful execution and elegance. Winner of four Tony Awards\, this is a musical work that has forever entranced the world of theatre. \nSet in 1900 Sweden\, A Little Night Music explores the tangled web of affairs centred around actress\, Desiree Armfeldt (Bronwen James)\, and the men who love her: a lawyer by the name of Fredrik Egerman (Robin Schmelzkopf) and the Count Carl-Magnus Malcolm (Nicholas Bishop). When the travelling actress performs in Fredrik’s town\, the estranged lovers’ passion rekindles. This strikes a flurry of jealousy and suspicion between Desiree; Fredrik; Fredrick’s wife\, Anne (Emilene Whitehead); Desiree’s current lover\, the Count; and the Count’s wife\, Charlotte (Deborah Caddy). Not to mention Fredrik’s son Henrik (William Richards)\, who is in love with Anne. \nBoth men – as well as their jealous wives and Henrik – agree to join Desiree and her family for a weekend in the country at Desiree’s mother’s estate. With everyone in one place\, infinite possibilities of new romances and second chances bring endless surprises. \n“I simply adore this show” says director Pam O’Grady\, who has herself played Desiree\, “I love working with Ric Trevaskis (Associate Director) and Christine Hodgen (Musical Director) to bring the production to life.” \nA Little Night Music is full of hilariously witty and heartbreakingly moving moments of adoration\, regret and desire\, and contains Sondheim’s popular song\, the haunting “Send in the Clowns.” \nA LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC runs in a limited season of just 10 performances at The Arts Theatre\, 53 Angas St Adelaide\, from April 26 to May 5. \nPraise for the G&S Society’s last show\, Les Misérables: \n“IT’S a Festival Theatre show poured out onto the Arts Theatre stage. This spectacular G&S Society production” – The Advertiser \n“It quite literally leaves you spellbound in your seat.” – Stage Whispers\n\n“The combination of gorgeous voices\, superior acting and creative design means this production has an engaging sense of originality. It is hard to imagine a better amateur production of this beloved show.” – Adelaide Theatre Guide \n“A wondrous night out” – Encore

SUMMARY:Born Yesterday
DESCRIPTION:“What the hell do I care about politics? I got enough trouble in my own racket.”\nIt’s 1946\, the war’s just over\, and Harry Brock – a loudmouthed shady businessman – has descended on Washington DC\, to cash in. He’s a multi-millionaire\, an egomaniacal\, misogynistic bully\, deeply suspicious of journalists and has a gorgeous trophy girlfriend. \nSound familiar? \nHarry plans to buy a Senator\, and bribe Congress to look the other way\, while he forms a cartel to wheel and deal in World War II scrap metal. \nHis mistress – ex-chorus-girl Billie Dawn – is very\, very beautiful…and very\, very uneducated. To make her less of a Washington liability\, Harry hits on the idea of hiring Paul Verrall – a handsome young reporter – to smarten her up. \nThe problem is that the more Billie learns\, the more she realises just what a crook Harry is\, and that she doesn’t have to take his bullying any more. Horrified at what he has unwittingly helped to create\, Harry looks around for ways “to make her dumb again”. \nBut\, it’s too late. The delicious genie is out of the bottle. \nGarson Kanin was both playwright and screenwriter\, his credits including several of the great Katharine Hepburn/Spencer Tracy films. Born Yesterday famously starred the iconic comedienne Judy Holliday\, both on stage\, and in the classic movie\, her performance winning her the Best Actress Oscar for 1950. \nWritten in 1946\, it has now become astonishingly – and hilariously – modern. \nMADELEINE HERD plays Billie Dawn\, STUART PEARCE Harry Brock and JONATHAN JOHNSTON Paul Verrall\, with David Roach\, Greg Janzow\, David Rapkin\, Bronwyn Ruciak\, Thomas Tessema and Jenna Bezuidenhout. \nBorn Yesterday is comedy at its side-splitting best\, in the recent tradition of Independent Theatre’s smash hits The Matchmaker and Before the Party. \nGoodwood Theatre 166a Goodwood Road\, Goodwood\nApril 27\, 28\, May 3\, 4\, 5 @ 7.30\, Matinees Sunday 29 @ 4.00; May 5 @ 2.00\, Early Tuesday May 1 and Wednesday 2 @ 6.30 \npresented by arrangement with Hal Leonard Australia as agents for Dramatists Play Service \nhttps://www.trybooking.com/book/event?eid=338987&
