Join professional snorkel leaders and marine biologists for a guided snorkel at Port Noarlunga reef. The reef has been an aquatic reserve and sanctuary since 1971 and is home to an amazing variety of colourful fish and plant life.
EMS snorkel events are Proudly supported by the Green Adelaide Landscape Board, National Parks and Wildlife Service, City of Onkaparinga, Suzanne Elliot Charitable Trust, Department of Human Services and our team of volunteers.
Funding, in-kind support and over 100 volunteer hours per event makes it possible to reduce the price of tickets by up to 80%. EMS is a not-for-profit and all funds raised from ticket sales go to overheads such as dive pro event leaders, insurance, equipment storage and volunteer training.
A short drive from Adelaide, families can enjoy the beach, picnic, and easy reef access, at this captivating site located in the Encounter Marine Park and Port Noarlunga Sanctuary Zone. Beginners can enter from the shore (under the jetty) and explore the pylons and shallow southern reef. Advanced snorkellers can investigate life under jetty and along the reef via the jetty’s end stairs.
At the jetty stair entry, you’ll be welcomed by large schools of sweep, silver drummer, leather jackets, and zebrafish. As you move along the reef, search for crabs, rays, reef fish, squid (and maybe even a dolphin or seadragon!) Along with the beach entry areas, look for bright orange sea stars, crabs, bream, dusky morwong, rays, and – if you’re lucky – a harmless Port Jackson shark!
Suitable for children 5 years and above whom are good swimmers. At least one parent to accompany and supervise two children. EMS has limited wetsuits and floatation devices for under 7 years. 5-7-year-olds can participate if parents supply the child’s own wetsuit and floatation device & supervision is one-on-one by a parent. Snorkel tours are taken at (or close to) low tide when there is little water movement and best visibility. Depth ranges from 2-6m. Trained snorkel guides lead the tours and are often accompanied by student or qualified marine biologists.
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before start time to fill out the registration form and be fitted with snorkel gear.
Parking and amenities: Parking and spacious visitor facilities with change rooms, toilets, shaded picnic tables, and outside showers. Easy access to the reef via stairs and dive platforms. Boat ramp to launch a kayak or stand up-board. Accessible car parking and ramps.
