Forming in 2009 The Smith Street Band today announce a run of 18 shows across the country for March and April 2024 to celebrate their 15th birthday. Playing a mix of capital cities and regional towns in every state of Australia and taking Melbourne rockers The Pretty Littles along for the ride.
The Smith Street Band played their first ever show at the iconic Melbourne venue The Tote back in 2009, fast forward to 2023 and the band have played over 800 shows across 23 countries and graced stages at some of Australia’s favourite festivals including Big Day Out, Splendour In The Grass, Groovin The Moo, Laneway, Falls Festival and abroad at Reading and Leeds (UK), Riot Fest (US), Hurricane and Southside (Germany). The list goes on! They have played venues they’d only ever dreamed of, including six hometown shows at the Forum Theatre and a staggering 15 at the Corner Hotel.
Since their debut album No One Gets Lost Anymore in 2011 The Smith Street Band have landed five studio albums and three live albums in the ARIA Album Chart, with 2020 album Don’t Waste Your Anger hitting #1 after being released on their very own label Pool House Records. The list of achievements continues with six of the band’s tracks landing in triple j’s Hottest 100 over the years with ‘I Still Dream About You’ and ‘Death To The Lads’ both landing at #21.
Reflecting on 15 years lead singer Wil Wagner says “to have been doing this for 15 years is such a blessing, we have been so lucky to be able to experience so much since those early days playing on floors to 10 people! We’ve been able to travel the world, make countless life long friends, share stages with some of the best bands of our generation and play some incredible venues and festivals! We’re going to be putting all that excitement and nostalgia into our set for this tour, playing songs off every album and trying to give something back to all the incredible Smithies fans old and new! So much has changed since those early days, we’ve gone from rat bag kids to slightly less rat bag adults but the thing that’s never changed has been how much we love playing and how passionate we are about the music we make and the people we make it with!”
