Tom West brings his band to The Gov to play live for the first time, his new album, Antarctica. Joined by very special guest and sublime storyteller, Nancy Bates. This is an early evening show: dinner is available from 5pm and doors open at 6pm. Physical distancing rules will apply so please book early to reserve your preferred seating.

” **** With his unique voice, storytelling and folk sensibility he could pass for a modern-day Neil Young. ” – John O’Brien, The Sunday Mail.

“One of the best albums of 2020” – Scenster.

Originally from Adelaide, until March West had spent the majority of the past 3 years pounding the pavement in the United States: touring, couch surfing, overnight busses to and from shows, sleeping in stations, and playing performing as much as possible, good, bad and ugly shows and everything in between!

Things took a turn in March when he ended up going to hospital in Milwaukee after getting attacked by a husky before a gig, shows began to cancel, then, days later, had to suddenly leave New York as the pandemic was breaking.

Antarctica was written during a period after his father died from motor neurone disease. Produced by Allen Tate (San Fermin) in studios around Brooklyn, NY and was mixed & mastered by Grammy nominated Tyler McDiarmid. It features a collection of songs that have proven to enthral audiences around the world with West’s forthcoming style and the honesty behind his storytelling and music. He shares perspectives on love, loss and observations of the world around us from silent wilderness to churning big cities. His experiences and writings are underpinned by a humble upbringing among the rolling hIlls and surf worn coasts of SA spent listening to and learning from the timeless music of the likes of Neil Young, Joni Mitchell & Jeff Lang.

The Sunday Mail awarded the album 4/5 stars. Scenstr says ‘Tom West has delivered one of the best albums of 2020.’ Of lead single, “A Folk Singer from Outer Space,” American Songwriter describes ‘Melancholic and comical, ”A Folk Singer From Outer Space” somehow offers some soothing solace for the current, permeating state of loss and isolation.’

“Bates was a revelation with her magnificently pure, powerful voice and tasteful guitar.” Stephen Horne, InDaily.

“Nancy Bates [is] one of the most gifted emerging singer-songwriters in Australia today. Few artists have the courage to be as vulnerable, and authentic in performing, as Nancy Bates. She ‘empties her cup’ twice for her audience….and they walk away overflowing.” – Archie Roach
