FLOURISH CHARITY DINNER RETURNS TO HELP SOUTH AUSTRALIAN MOTHERS THRIVE

Flourish, a dining experience raising money for local charity organisation, The Village Co, will return to Adelaide on Friday, 20th June at Ondeen in Verdun.

The special event will see exquisite meals prepared by restaurant owner/chef Kane Pollard, Salopian Inn chef and Tasting Australia Director Karena Armstrong, Chefs on Wheels Co-Founder Paul Baker and Food SA’s Darren Curnow, complemented with a curated beverage list by
The Village Co Ambassador and wine extraordinaire Tony Love.

It will raise funds to assist South Australia’s vulnerable mothers. Stephanie Malan, The Village Co CEO and Co-Founder, says one in two new
mothers in the state need support.

“Thousands of women are navigating the overwhelming challenges of new motherhood – often alone, and without essentials they need to feel
safe, supported, and seen,” says Stephanie. “Flourish is a dining experience where we hope to nurture partakers, just as The Village Co
hopes to do so to mothers needing assistance.”

Flourish is an experience that’s as beautiful as it is delicious, with the abundance of talent from the guest chefs showcased through a
five-course menu that pleases the palate and nourishes the body and soul.

It’s dining with purpose – each course will be paired with exquisite wines, carefully selected to enhance the flavours and elevate the experience. The evening will be filled with entertainment, dancing, and a gin and whisky bar for those who want to keep the party going.

It is the second Flourish event, with the last one held in November 2023. That event raised more than $60,000, and it’s expected this event – priced at $280 a ticket – will generate similar a figure to go towards The Village Co’s vital work.

Support from the not-for-profit includes care packs with items like nappies, wipes, baby clothes and breast pads, and self-care packs for
those who suffer miscarriages or stillbirths. Additionally, the organisation offers manual breast pumps to help new mothers establish and maintain a breast milk supply, and vouchers for a week’s worth of pre-made meals delivered to their door by Chefs on Wheels.

From The Village Co’s emergence in 2018 supporting 100 mothers in that year, the organisation now assists more than 1400 mothers a year
statewide.

Numbers for new mums needing assistance has risen 10-fold, with a recent analysis by The Village Co and 180 Degree

Consulting revealing that 56 per cent of mothers experience financial hardship, and 71 per cent experience significant mental distress because
of financial stress, domestic violence or post-partum depression.
