Garry Starr Review

This weirdly wonderful show will have you in fits. It was my first time seeing this great big goofball, Damien Warren-Smith but from the roar he received when stepping on stage, you could hear there were more than a few repeat offenders in the audience!

Setting out with a mission to save his homeland Greece from total ‘ergonomic recession’, Damien’s alter-ego Garry Starr gives us the full rundown of Greek ‘misogyny’ with the hope of boosting international tourism to his home country. With skits of pure silliness, you’ll dive into everything from medusa to mermaid poseidon, packing in as much Greek mythology as possible in 60 minutes.

Audience participation is encouraged with a few cameo appearances that genuinely had me shrieking with joy as audience members took on their roles, getting into some contemporary greek dancing and assisting with a very COVID-friendly immaculate conception but Garry Starr always remained the star of the show, and very much the butt of the jokes.

I’d certainly recommend immersing yourself in Garry Starr’s Greek Lightning. From the crazy clowning around antics, scantily dressed scenes and wildly expressive Shakespearean behaviour, you’ll be strange wanting to go back for more.
