Gordy Boy Records will take over Adelaide Arcade’s underground tea rooms and bring live performances to Gay’s Arcade as part of Record Store Day (RSD) celebrations on Saturday, 12th April.
For Gordy Boy’s second RSD in the arcade, the tea rooms will be stocked with new and preloved records for music lovers to explore from 8am to 5pm. Store members will also be treated to a performance from local punk rock band, The Public Servants, in a limited ticket event in-store.
Ed Rooney, Gordy Boy Records owner, says RSD is about the consumers – music fans who give back not only by purchasing records, but by supporting local small business.
“The smiles I see when someone finds the record they’re after makes days like RSD so worthwhile,” says Ed. “It’s such an awesome celebration when people from all walks of life are brought together by good records and that same passion to find something they really enjoy.
“This year I’m adding to the shopping side of it with a bit of DJing, as well as having the awesome guys from The Public Servants.”
From 8am until 1pm, Ed and The City Record Club will deliver DJ sets as background beats for record hunters, and The Public Servants will be on from 1pm until 2pm.
The Public Servants will be playing a slightly acoustic take on their novelty punk rock, which centres on humorous songs about public servant life. The band performance will be a limited show for 25 guests who are members of Gordy Boy Records and is fresh off an Adelaide Fringe appearance.
Adelaide Arcade General Manager, Andrew Jonats, says, “Opened in December 2023, Gordy Boy Records has brought vinyl to the arcade as music lovers continue to embrace the retro format.”
Record Store Day falls on Saturday, 12th April 2025. Gordy Boy Records will be open from 8am to 5pm in Gay’s Arcade, and the Adelaide Arcade underground tea rooms.
