New bar and kitchen ‘La Taberna’ has made home of the space at 281 Rundle Street, bringing forth authentic infusions from abroad. The Portuguese owners will serve a menu that’s broadly Latin.

With tastes from Portugal, Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Colombia, Brazil and Spain – their signature dishes include paella, tacos, quesadillas, Cubanos, fish cakes and more.

Their cocktail list is also traditional but with a twist, from bitter to sour to fruity, it will include pisco sour, mojitos and margaritas. They also have their own delicious brew of tap beer, La Taberna Cerveja, and cider, La Taberna Sidra.

Co-owners Rosa and Gaspar Sa are a wife and husband duo, and the head chefs behind the bar and kitchen. They began cooking in Portugal, Spain and France, and have shared their great food experiences around Australia for almost a decade.

In South Australia, the duo has worked in various restaurants including Hortas Restaurant, Mesa Lunga, Mexican Society, Hispanic Mechanic and most recently Lady Burra Brewhouse.

Taking its name from a Spanish word, ‘La Taberna’ translates to ‘bar’. It symbolises a place where you go with your family and friends to drink, eat and have a good time.

Co-owner Rosa Sa said the venue is where magic happens.

“We’re excited about bringing new flavors and dishes to Rundle Street. It’s traditional food, but with a twist, Rosa said.

La Taberna will play in-house Latino music during the week, and on Friday and Saturday it’ll bring live Latino entertainment to the venue. It’s also set to make Mexican, Cuban and Puerto Rican salsa nights a thing!

“Dinner and dance is the time to come together. The food and music experience is going to be truly unique to Adelaide,” said Rosa.

La Taberna is open Monday – Sunday from 11am until late. The kitchen is open for lunch and dinner 12pm – 3pm and 5pm – 10pm. The bar will remain open until late on Friday and Saturday – think Latino fiesta!

It’s a fresh new eatery where customers can try different dishes for a diverse taste experience while enjoying the sounds of Latin American and Latin European-inspired tunes. La Taberna is now open from 11:30am until late, seven days a week.
