MARINA PINK – NEW GLENELG FUNDRAISER INITIATIVE FOR OCTOBER

Glenelg’s Marina Pier is turning pink for October in the name of breast cancer, working with Flinders Foundation to create Marina Pink.

Marina Pink is a month-long initiative raising funds and awareness for breast cancer research and care, allowing businesses to create their own pink-themed occasion or special offer across October.

Makris Group’s CEO, Jason Makris, shares how the contribution to Marina Pink expresses the dedication to meaningful initiatives that support communities and places Marina Pier value most.

“We are committed to a more sustainable, diverse and inclusive world that goes far beyond the walls of the properties in our portfolio. That’s why we’re proud to work alongside charities such as Flinders Foundation,” says Jason.

With community as a core focus, Marina Pier Marketing Director, Anna-Louise Coppock, says working closely with traders and local residents has already produced an array of ideas to bring to those visiting the precinct.

“We want to create an unforgettable month of pink events and menu items, and we have a number of applications from traders who are extremely interested to be involved,” says Anna-Louise.

“We encourage anything to stand out during the month, from quiz nights and dinners with pink themes, to menu items that could get really creative such as pink oysters and pink pasta!”

“We are so pleased to raise essential funds for the Flinders Foundation, who are at the forefront of research and care for South Australian breast cancer sufferers.”
Marina Pier and Flinders Foundation first joined forces in October 2020 when pandemic restrictions prevented the Foundation from hosting their annual fundraiser ball and other creative options had to be explored. A ‘deconstructed’ version of the ball was held across multiple venues in the Marina, streamed across the spaces so everyone could see each other.

Marina Pink is the evolution of that relationship, and Ross Verschoor, Executive Director Flinders Foundation, says the initiative is a fun way of shedding light on something serious.

“Flinders Foundation works together with individuals and organisations in the community to support health and medical research and improve health care,” says Ross.

“Creating Marina Pink with Marina Pier is an example of how important those community connections are, and we’re grateful that we can turn a social experience into something very meaningful.”

Funds raised will go towards supporting leading clinicians in their research across Flinders Medical Centre and Flinders University.

Flinders Foundation is a leader in supporting South Australian medical advances, funding cutting-edge research notable for progress in the fight against breast cancer.

The first official event of the program will be a lunch on Sunday, 1 October at Luciano’s on the Marina to celebrate the launch of Marina Pink, with other events and offers to be revealed closer to October.
