Opening night at Adelaide Fringe Festival and I was treated to an evening of musical excellence in the Marion Cultural Centre. I am a big fan of the Rolling Stones and was curious to see just how good this tribute act was, after all, I’ve already read some glowing reports on their previous shows in Adelaide. Moves like Jagger – Yes; Voice like Jagger – Hell yes! Kicking the set off with Jumping Jack Flash, this was the start of a Stones Greatest Hits gig of the highest standard. “Mick Jagger” bounded around the stage with youthful energy and wasn’t afraid to get the audience involved, dancing around the floor with a senior gentleman on Route 66 before playfully singing to a lady at the opposite side of the venue.
Hit after hit rolled out in this two-part set. After the short interval, the second half started with one of my personal favourites, Sympathy for the Devil. Other highlights of the show were backing vocalist Leanne blasting out Beast of Burden with a voice worthy of a show of its own, and the saxophonist – whose music teacher was at the show and gave him an A+ when asked what she would grade him.
Anyone who likes any of the Stones songs should see this highly entertaining, talented group. Classics like Gimme Shelter, Honky Tonk Woman, Brown Sugar, Paint it Black and Satisfaction were perfectly performed and very well received by a very appreciative audience. Easily a 5-star show in my eyes!
