National Carer Week

In honour of National Carers Week, 13-19 October, CABN is proud to announce an initiative that gives back to the unsung heroes of the community – Australia’s carers. CABN is offering five deserving carers the opportunity to win a two-night, off-grid nature retreat to disconnect, relax, and recharge at one of their breathtaking CABN locations.

In addition to the millions of wonderful paid carers, Australia is also home to 3 million unpaid carers, individuals who devote their lives to supporting loved ones, often at the expense of their own well-being. Carers frequently face stress, burnout, and isolation, all while juggling the immense responsibility of caring for others.

CABN Chief Executive Officer, Michael Lamprell, says, “Caregivers are the backbone of our communities, often putting others first. At CABN, we understand how crucial it is for carers to find respite, and we’re committed to offering them a sanctuary where they can unplug from everyday life and experience the benefits of spending quality time nature. It’s the reason that CABN exists.

“Earlier this year, we surprised a long-term, repeat guest with a surprise complimentary stay for her seventh visit. Her friend reached out to thank us, revealing she and her husband care for high-needs family members while also working and giving back to the community,” says Michael. “This email simply reinforced why we created CABN and made us so happy that we play a small role in contributing to the wellbeing of these amazing people. This story is one of many, and it inspired us to take action to honour National Carers Week.

“By offering these escapes, we hope to provide carers with the rejuvenation they truly deserve. We want to raise awareness about the mental and emotional toll caregiving takes, and this is our way of saying thank you,” says Michael.

CABN is now giving five carers the chance to win a two-night stay at one of their off-grid locations, including McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Barossa Valley, Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island. The trips can be taken anytime as there are no restrictions on validity or dates (pending availability).

Entrants must simply nominate a deserving carer – paid or unpaid – by visiting the CABN campaign page at www.cabn.life/carersweek and in 200 words or less tell CABN why they deserve a much-needed break. Self-nominations are also welcome. Five deserving carers will be chosen from the entries and will win one of the five amazing getaways.

Annabel Reid, CEO of Carers Australia, welcomed the giveaway and says, “Carers Australia advocates for the rights, recognition and respite unpaid carers deserve when they give so selflessly 24/7. Our economy could not function without the tireless dedication of unpaid carers. Carers all over Australia tell us how exhausting their roles can be and we know carers frequently face burnout and challenges accessing respite. We are thrilled that CABN is offering their beautiful accommodations to carers so they can reconnect with the outdoors/nature and hopefully take a well-deserved break.”

CABN will be working with Carers Australia to help raise awareness of the selfless contributions carers make every day during National Carers Week. This initiative aims not only to give back to carers but to highlight the importance of supporting mental health and well- being.

Nominations are now open and close 5pm ACDT on Friday, 25th October 2024.
