Torrensville is now home to Onsen – a sauna-focused lounge inspired by those who value self-care.

Taking from the Japanese onsen (hot spring centres), Adelaide now has its own calming space for nourishing the body with saunas, magnesium pools and compression therapy.

Owners, James Rosback and Joshua O’Grady, have transformed their personal experience from onsen use overseas to create a locale for those wanting to switch off, recharge and/or recover.

James says the Onsen community is a space for anyone who Is health conscious, to step out of the daily grind and connect with others over a sauna or plunge.

“Some will come in before work while others will roll through after a long day. Some will want to switch off in silence, while others might have a yarn in the barrel,” says James.

The calming, purposeful experience is designed to nourish both body and mind with casual visits, packages and memberships available. Onsen aims to help foster growth and connection to self and others.

Onsen’s key focus is to offer an exceptionally clean space for Its community.

Exposed concrete floors and walls, Venetian plaster and minimalist, Japandi interior design are complimented by timber saunas and pools. A traditional barrel sauna sees communal gatherings for up to six people per session ($27 per person for 25 minutes).

Two full spectrum infrared saunas are available for private use (25 or 55 minutes). Bring a friend options are available and a long session for two is $59.

Four premium magnesium pools contrast between hot baths and cold plunges to awaken the senses, with one person in each at any time for 25 minutes ($27 per person).

Normatec compression boots are available for recovery, helping with circulation and reviving muscles. For each person, $25 provides 55 minutes of recovery time.

For those wanting a more immersive experience, two packages satisfy those wanting a taste of everything. The Base Set is a five pack of any 25-minute service priced at $110, while for $190 the Deep Reset allows for 10 choices. These save guests up to 30 per cent off regular pricing.
