Every Thursday this August, East End Cellars will host its annual Soup Kitchen to support South Australians experiencing homelessness to raise money for Hutt Street Centre and Catherine House.
In its sixth year, the now-iconic Soup Kitchen initiative see East End Cellars transform its landscape to host a soup lunch prepared by some of Adelaide’s finest chefs, who will share their culinary expertise and serve up an innovative twist of traditional hearty soups.
Africola’s Duncan Welgemoed, Sharon & David Swain of Fino Vino and Chianti’s Josh Cooke, along with a soon-to-be-announced special guest chef, are all set to participate in this year’s event. Bowls of soup will be accompanied by a side of crusty bread and will be sold at $20 per bowl, with vegan and vegetarian options available, and 100% of proceeds donated. Margie Andrewartha, owner of East End Cellars, encourages corporate groups to book a table ahead of time.
“We’re excited to once again join forces with like-minded chefs in Adelaide and encourage city-goers to come down on their lunch break to support this noteworthy cause, shares Margie.” “As well as serving up delicious soup, we will be running a silent auction at each Soup Kitchen event throughout the month, with 100% of all donations directly given to Hutt Street Centre and Catherine House.”
QR codes will be available on the day so that patrons can donate to support fellow South Australians who are sleeping rough this winter. Upon donating, patrons will receive a tax-deductible receipt. According to Hutt Street Centre, a donation of $350 is enough to provide meals for a day for 200 people experiencing homelessness, while $50 can provide a hot shower, laundry service and a locker for three months for a person sleeping rough. A donation of $30, just $10 more than the Soup Kitchen lunch, will cover hot breakfast and lunch for two weeks for a person experiencing homelessness.
At Catherine House, $300 can provide women in need with casework support, including essential health care and housing, whereas $152 can support a night’s accommodation for a woman entering the Crisis Service. A donation of $50 allows Catherine House to supply a Welcome Pack for a woman arriving at Catherine House.
South Australians are invited to dig deep this winter to support this event and help make a life-changing difference in the lives of people experiencing homelessness.
To extend their goodwill, East End Cellars and The Star of Greece have teamed up to launch the first regional Soup Kitchen. Starting on August 3rd, the Kiosk will offer takeaway soup every Saturday in August for $20. Enjoy Chef Mike Collins’ Sweet Potato and Leek Soup with a locally made bread roll, or East End Cellars owner, Margie Andrewartha’s Pea and Ham Soup, available from 12 noon until sold out, with 100% proceeds donated.
The Soup Kitchen begins on Thursday, 1st August, with doors opening every Thursday of August at 12 noon and continue until sold out. There will be a dine-in experience available for patrons, as well as takeaway options. Bookings can be made directly through the website – eastendcellars.com.au.
