Adelaide Arcade will play a special role in the South Australian Living Artists (SALA) Festival when it returns this August with their annual special event showcasing featured artists on Friday, 9th August.

On this evening, as well as for the duration of the festival, attendees will be fortunate enough to observe several SALA exhibitions within Adelaide Arcade and Gay’s Arcade.

Andrew Jonats, General Manager of Adelaide Arcade, highlights their ongoing commitment to celebrating SALA with a vibrant mix of activations and exhibitions, which cultivate an appreciation for diverse art forms. “This year, Adelaide Arcade is thrilled to welcome Catherine Nguyen-Hoang, one of the collaborators of
the exhibition ‘Curiosity,’ who has recently been announced as a finalist in the SALA Festival Don Dunstan Awards,” says Andrew.

By showcasing SALA through a range of exhibitions and meet-and-greets, we provide shoppers with anaccessible way to immerse themselves in the festival. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to experience something new and highlights our remarkable local talent.”

There will be some exclusive in-store offers across the night.

Bearded Dragon Gallery invites shoppers to meet the makers in-store while offering non-alcoholic beverages and nibbles. Their featured exhibition, ‘Organic Visions,’ is a collective of South Australian artists with disability or mental health barriers.

Zu design – jewellery + objects will celebrate the ‘Zu me & JCB’ exhibition, with the makers themselves. T’Arts – Textile and Arts Collective will host ‘Cape Capers + Meet the Artists,’ an intimate opportunity to get up close and have artists answer questions.

‘Spotlights’ is a photographic exhibit from Dave Nettle in the shoe store, Kennedy Parker. The event will be an opportunity for shoppers to meet the artist over drinks and nibbles.

Two Bit Villains will be home to ‘Curiosity,’ a curated exhibition that explores the unexpected stories and lived experiences of the artists. Its artists comprise SALA Festival Don Dunstan Awards finalist, CatherineNguyen-Hoang, along with, Tessa Bartholomew, Sarah Keane, Elle Dawson-Scott and Ella Simpson.

The centre of Adelaide Arcade will display the popular ‘Wearable Art’ exhibition, which returns to showcase wearable art and dancewear created by second-year Bachelor of Arts Costume students from TAFE SA and Flinders University.

Underground, in the original Tea Rooms, artist Elle Dawson-Scott will bring a pop of colour to the under- used space with her installation titled, ‘Spring.’ The exhibition’s name is partly inspired by the natural spring that was used to make tea in the rooms when they were built in 1885.

The SALA Exhibition event in Adelaide Arcade is on Friday, 9th August from 5pm to 9pm. Exhibitions will be on display at various times across the month of August.
