Ignite SA Gigabit Challenge: Preserve briefing

Ignite SA has partnered with the SA Museum and the GigCity initiative to bring you the Ignite SA Gigabit Challenge: Preserve. If you are a developer, entrepreneur, student, hacker, maker or creative mind in South Australia, we want you to join us at the Ignite SA Gigabit Challenge: Preserve briefing on Wednesday 2 May 2018. The aim of this event is to provide further information on the Museum’s Australian Aboriginal cultures collection and how you will can compete to bring this collection into the digital age.

Successful applicants will receive $20,000 towards the development of their proposed solution, plus a further $5,000 to attend a global conference, potentially pitching your idea on a global scale.

First Auditions Come and Try Quidditch Session

YES Quidditch is a real thing! Are you a Harry Potter fan? Are you looking for a unique and different sport to play? Then this event is for you!

Join us for our first come and try session this year!

We will be running some drills and games to showcase the different positions in Quidditch.

Arrive by 3:15 for sign in and a welcome chat, with training starting at 3:30.

Wear sports gear, sports shoes and don’t forget water, sunscreen and any personal medication needed.

The day will be lead by head coach Cindy, who has had experience playing and coaching Quidditch all around the world. On top of that she was one of the selectors for the Australian Dropbears 2018 World Cup team.

All skill and fitness levels are welcome as well as spectators!

This session is for the Adult Augureys team which is ages 16+

The coup and the struggle for democratisation in Zimbabwe: Challenges, Prospects and Lessons

It’s been four months since one of the world’s longest-serving dictators was forced out of power. Robert Mugabe dramatically left office in what was essentially a military coup albeit couched in popular protests. The unique political ‘transition’ that happened in Zimbabwe offers a great opportunity to re-look into the democratisation debate in Africa. This talk discusses the challenges, prospects, and lessons for Zimbabwe’s democratisation in the context of the November coup.

Edson Ziso is a Visiting Research Fellow, in the Dept. of Politics & International Studies, School of Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts at the University of Adelaide. His research focuses on Australia-Africa and China-Africa relations, South-South cooperation, global governance and Zimbabwean politics. Ziso recently completed his PhD in Politics at the University of Adelaide.

Think Global is a monthly series of public talks, conversations, and dialogues, with a focus on contemporary politics and international relations. The Centre of Democracy has partnered with three of South Australia’s leading universities to share new research and engage with current political debate.
