A brilliant a cappella quintet that brings together the impeccable vocals of 5 very talented men, The Magnets are back this year at the Adelaide Fringe with their epic show The Naked ‘80s. Using their voice and their voice alone, without any need for a band or instruments, The Magnets are able to effectively justify the tunes of a number of hits from the 80s.
With a beautiful blend of vocal harmonies and beat boxing, the guys from The Magnets were able to put a unique and signature twist on well loved songs from music greats, such as Prince, Europe, Michael Jackson, Felix Jaehn, John Farnham, and RUN DMC (to name a few). Given that the show was only on for an hour and seeing how much quality music was created in the 80s, The Magnets were also effortlessly able to engage audiences in a jam-packed Magnets Medley, which incorporated nearly 14 hits in just 4.5 minutes! It’s safe to say that there were more people dancing on their feet than those sitting in their seats by this point in the show!
Surrounded by a light bulb-studded stage and with little to no props, The Magnets made us feel right at home in their beautiful Spiegeltent, which is set up to replicate the vibe of a speakeasy. There is much friendly banter that goes on among the guys between songs, which further adds a level of authenticity and a genuine connection between the band members that is attractive and pleasing to see unfold, as the show progresses.
The Magnets are a must-see at this year’s Adelaide Fringe – with a couple of new and fresh faces joining the major crowd-pleaser of a band, there’s no better way to kick off the Fringe festivities for the night than by having a cheeky boogie with the guys, whose voices form the powerhouse of a band.
