Fringe Review: Skank Sinatra ★★★★★

This show was brilliant! It was a mix of cabaret and comedy that had the whole crowd laughing and enjoying every second. Jens took us on a journey from her upbringing in South Africa to immigrating to Australia, putting a sassy twist on ‘I Still Call Australia Home’. She cheekily changed the lyrics of Frank Sinatra classics, singing ’Strangers in the Night’ with saucy humour, and ‘Comply with Me’ (to the tune of ‘Come Fly with Me’). And once in Australia she wanted to be at the heart of it all, and to ‘wake up in a city that never sleeps – Perth’. Then she regaled us with songs and stories about tough German bouncers and the intoxicating nightclubs of Berlin. Through it all, Jens held the audience captivated with her amazing singing voice and compelling stage presence.
Jens was fabulous in drag, and is inclusive as ‘even the heterosexuals are welcome here’. She has impeccable comic timing and the show was clever, witty and hilarious. I took along my partner, who doesn’t usually like comedic songs. But Jens completely won him over and he absolutely LOVED it. It finished with a Sinatra medley and a standing ovation. Jens Radda is a star and deserves a much bigger audience.
The last weekend of the Fringe is here, so go see Skank Sinatra. It was so good I want to shout it from the rooftops. This is one of the best Fringe shows I’ve ever seen! A definite 5 stars.
