Pirate Life Brewing’s New Sour Brew Created in Exclusive Collaboration with Marion Hotel

Marion Hotel has added a sense of locale to its beverage line up with its new on-tap beer, the Pomegranate Fruit Sour, brewed in an exclusive collaboration by Adelaide craft brewery, Pirate Life Brewing.

Pirate Life’s Pomegranate Fruit Sour is the brainchild of Peter Catlin, Hurley Hotel Group’s On Premise Manager, and Matt Newman, Pirate Life Brewing’s National Sales Manager.

“We had a desire to bring something a bit different to our customers that they couldn’t get anywhere else; a nod to the new space and emerging trends. Pirate Life produce great beer, have the ability to produce a small batch craft brew and recognised a gap in their range for lower alcohol, flavoursome beers that get people started,” says Hurley Hotel Group’s On Premise Manager, Peter Catlin.

“We wanted to create an easy drinking, approachable beer, with flavour that’s a little unexpected. This beer isn’t about big flavour double IPA’s, Pirate Life already does that very well. This beer is a bit more precise in flavour, sour on the back palate with a bit of fruit but without being fruity, and great for Sunday (or any day) sessions and cocktail mixing alike… Pomegranate because we wanted a delicate flavour, and sour because we wanted some tang without the bitter.”

Guests will also be able to check out the extensive Marion Hotel refurbishments, including an exclusive Pirate Life mural in the Hurley Cellars, created by Melbourne artist Mike Makatron.

“When given a 24-metre wall of opportunity, it was an easy decision for us to pick the right artist for the job – Mike Makatron is the best in the business!” says Pirate Life National Sales Manager, Matt Newman.

“With an open-ended brief to simply bring the Marion Hotel/Pirate Life brand to life with textures, earthy tones and hints of nature, Maka is the best in Australia for this type of style. When Maka created the giant peacock for our brewery in Port Adelaide, we were stoked with the opportunity presented by the Hurley Hotel Group to use him again.”

The life-size mural is 24 metres long and almost four metres high. It was painted by Makatron in just four days, providing a welcoming and exciting artwork piece for Hurley Cellars visitors. The jungle design features South Australian heritage icon ‘the frog cake’ and South Australia’s rare colony of glow in the dark mushrooms.

Marion Hotel is located at 849 Marion Road, Mitchell Park and is open seven days a week until late. For more information, visit www.marionhotel.com.au
