Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters

We heard you Adelaide! Following incredible interest in other cities Bluesfest Touring is pleased to announce Robert Plant & The Sensational Space Shifters will be performing for you!

Marking 50 years since Led Zeppelin’s first self-titled album was released, the legendary singer returns to Australia along with his band, The Sensational Space Shifters and a new album ‘Carry Fire’.  It promises to be a powerful show; not to be missed by any true fan.

First established in 2002, The Sensational Space Shifters are Plant’s latest project; a loose band “inspired by the roots music of Mississippi, Appalachia, Gambia, Bristol and the foothills of Wolverhampton and drawing on influences collected in a lifetime of meander and journeying.”

Plant talks about creating new work after 50 years in the music industry:

“It’s about intention, I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the lure and incentive to create new work. I must mix old with new. Consequently, the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation”.

Each night on this tour of Australia, Robert Plant will take audiences on an incredible journey through his unique musical life. These shows will include rare performances of some Led Zeppelin hits in intimate spaces that will allow fans to experience the full power of his epic vocal prowess.

PETstock National Pet Adoption Day – Take the lead and adopt a pet

On Sunday 4 February 2018, pet rescue organisations will pay a visit to PETstock stores across Adelaide with homeless animals to help them find families that will love them forever.

The initiative, led by PETstock’s charity foundation PETstock Assist, in partnership with not-for-profit animal rescue organisation PetRescue, aims to raise awareness of pet adoption as part of National Pet Adoption Day.

Every year, approximately 200,000 healthy pets find themselves homeless in Australia’s pounds and shelters – a statistic PETstock is determined to change.

PETstock Chief Executive Officer, Shane Young, said if just one in five pet seekers chose to adopt a pet instead of shop, we could end pet homelessness in Australia.

“Our goal is for every rescue pet to find their forever home, and we’re getting closer,” he said.

“PetRescue figures show the adoption of pets is increasing year-on-year, demonstrating how saving every homeless pet in Australia is possible, but we still have a way to go.

“Last National Pet Adoption Day saw more than 500 pets find forever homes and we’re hoping to increase on this figure in 2018. I urge everyone who’s been considering a pet to visit their local PETstock this Adoption Day and meet some of the incredible animals up for adoption.”

PetRescue Co-Founder, Vickie Davy, said people may be surprised by who they find at Pet Adoption Day.

“’Pets of all types, sizes, breeds and ages will be available for adoption on the day so everyone is sure to find their perfect match,” she said.

“The beauty of adoption is that people can adopt a pet that’s the perfect fit for them. The rescue group can give you an overview of the animal’s behaviour and personality so you know exactly what you’re going to get – great for those wanting an animal but who may not have time to raise and train a young puppy or kitten.

“Adopted pets are filled with unlimited love, affection and gratitude for their new homes. They make great lifelong companions and can teach valuable lessons to children on the importance of responsibility and empathy.”

Before joining their forever family, adopted pets are de-sexed, vaccinated and treated for parasites as well as having undergone a comprehensive veterinary and behaviour assessment.

Why rescue animals make great pets

  • Already trained – most rescue pets have been house pets in the past, they come toilet trained and with basic manners so you’re not starting from scratch.
  • You know what you get – grown animals have developed personalities, are more mellow (and less destructive!) than a young pet and can be a better fit for families with young children.
  • They have more love to give – abandoned pets are eager to become part of a loving pack and will bond with a new family as soon as they feel safe and secure.
  • It’s cost effective – a rescue pet has been health-checked, de-sexed, vaccinated, wormed and treated for fleas.
