Cabaret Fringe Review: She Shanties ★★★★

Dive into a sea of song, laughter and marine puns with Alex and the Babes, for an exciting evening of musical improvisation and theatrics.

With no two performances the same, the audience were called upon to mould the direction of the show, calling out names and careers to get us started.

From the depths of the deep sea, the remote exploration for magical and mythical creatures, the Irish Museum of weird and wonderful things, to far away hidden portals – our cast of seafaring shanties sailed us through an entertaining performance, navigating the high seas and scenes.

In true improv style, the show was a little unpredictable and chaotic, but our lasses stitched it together well and had the audience in fits with their sudden accent changes and off the cuff catchy choruses.

The musical improv was a huge highlight. Who doesn’t love a bit of audience participation, a good singalong and the chance to get into the nautical spirit?!

This was the last performance of She Shanties at the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival which runs until Sunday 4 June 2023 but you can catch Alex and the Babes for more improv theatre productions with Improv Adelaide throughout the year.

Seas the day and get out this winter to experience Adelaide’s cabaret season!
