The Extraordinary Guests of Hotel Richmond ★★★★
By Natalie Ig
An immersive & intimate experience of magic where the audience is able to witness up close the amazing skills of four very unique illusionists.
After checking in at the reception, you are told to make you way to level 2 & are shown into the first room, where there looks to be an old operating table complete with shackles.
The audience is invited to inspect the apparatus & even touch it. Our first illusionist PiP makes his grand entrance from the bathroom (a reoccurring theme for all the illusionists!) & tells us of how he acquired this contraption, originally from an old vaudevillian magician. He them proceeds to cut his lovely assistant in half with aid from a shocked audience! Once the assistant has been put back together, we are told the number of the next room to go to & we tentatively enter.
Our next illusionist Vincent Kuo takes his audience on an emotional rollercoaster with his brand of magic. He creates a show where he tell us he wants to audience to feel something, & with this is mind he is able to take us on a journey through feelings of happiness, surprise, fear, sadness, anger and disgust at some point throughout his performance.
Multitalented magician, actor, singer-songwriter & model Erica Vanlee, who you will usually find performing in Las Vegas, is in the next room & stuns us with her style of magic & illusion. Her performance is meticulously choreographed to music, and will leave you wondering where she is pulling all her parasols from!
As we enter our final room we find Sydney based magician Liam Power. Apparently a magic show isn’t a magic show unless there is a card trick, & he certainly does a card trick like no other, incorporating the use of technology. He also demonstrates how he is able to influence his audience with some remarkable stunts; he even shows us how to do our own magic trick at home. Now all I need to find is a hollow wooden egg!
The Extraordinary Guests of Hotel Richmond is a fantastic performance showcasing seven different illusionist over its entire run. It is like no other magic show you ever would have seen before, with only a maximum of 30 audience members allowed in per show. Take this opportunity to see some first class illusionists up close, interact with them, & gasp in wonder at their amazing feats!
